Stellenbosch Flora Fest 2023

The Stellenbosch University Botanical Gardens host an annual botanical art exhibition and in 2023 the curators of the exhibition felt that pieces from my Botanical Collection would extend the concept of botanical art and invited me to participate.

It was a wonderful opportunity for my jewellery to be viewed as more than just adornment and for the botanical exactitude of the silver floral “sculptures” to be appreciated. My Cape Climber Pendant and my Cone bush brooch were part of this exhibition.

Milano Jewellery Week 2022 & 2024

In 2022 I was invited by Prodes Italia, the organisers of the Milano Jewelry Week, to participate in their FAB Jewels exhibition. The theme for this exhibition was the 4 elements – Fire, Water, Earth and Air.

As part of the “Earth” theme I exhibited the Conebush brooch, on silver tree wood and the Albuca pendant, on red ivory wood.

It was fascinating to see how the organisers styled these 2 pieces for the photograph they took for the catalogue that accompanied this exhibition.

For Milano Jewelry Week (MJW) 2024, I was invited to be part of the prestigious Artistar Jewels Exhibition. There was no set theme for this exhibition, but designs had to be submitted for consideration by their jurors.

I took this opportunity to explore a creative idea I had been contemplating for some time; using found utilitarian objects and turning them into pieces of wearable art. My first such piece was the Janus Neckpiece, taking an 18th-century key and using it as the focus and teaming it with other man-made components that together span 3 centuries.

My second piece for MJW was the Love Letter. A brooch inspired by a large rectangular piece of jade I found at an antiques market. This incorporated another new idea, using lines of poetry to add meaning or a hidden message intended only for the wearer.

Both these pieces were accepted for the exhibition and feature in the beautiful coffee table book that accompanied this exhibition.

InFlow Hungary 2025

The Inflow Exhibition is an annual themed contemporary art jewellery exhibition held in Budapest. The theme for 2025 was “Transformative Narratives” and I was invited to submit suitable pieces for consideration by the 6-member panel of jurors.

I submitted one piece, the “Hope Brooch” and I was very fortunate to have it selected. I was then also asked to submit a second piece, and the “Janus Neckpiece” was selected.

It was a huge honour to be part of this exhibition which showcased the work of artists from 29 countries.

invitation to Florence Biennale

I was immensely surprised to receive an email inviting me to exhibit at the Florence Biennale in 2023. Unfortunately, in the midst of all the planning, booking stands etc, my wife had to start 6 months of chemotherapy, and I had to withdraw. Although I never participated, I still regard it a huge honour to have been invited to this prestigious event.
